The Roles and Responsibilities of the Superintendent will vary throughout the course of the Project. The Superintendent will interact with the project Team, Consultants and Owners, to ensure a progressive and safe working environment. The role of this individual is to manage all field construction of the Project. The Superintendent is responsible for all field aspects of the Projects budget, schedule, safety, and performance. The Superintendents role is to provide leadership and Mentoring to the Project staff where warranted. The Superintendent will report to the General Superintendent
The following is a list of activities that are inclusive, but not limited to the duties of the Superintendent on the Project:
Mentoring/coaching/supervising superintendents on the Project.
Implement schedules, coordination, effective cost control methods, as they pertain to labour, equipment and materials on the Project.
Select appropriate equipment for the site.
Select construction methodology.
Liaising with Owners, clients, union and labour relations.
Assist superintendents with construction procedures: safe work, job safety and analysis.
Lending expertise and support to several adjoining Phases of the Project
Assist in the development of the project plan and schedule.
Assist in the execution of the project plan and schedule.
Pre-tender scheduling support and Trade Selection.
Participate in pre-qualification process for approval for all recommended trades.
Participate in the award of subcontracts.
Provide input and ensure completeness of trade contracts prepared by the Construction Manager.
Obtain contractors input into schedule and their commitment to meet milestone and over schedule “if necessary, before closing”.
Attend all Site trade meetings to monitor the Sub Trade commitment to the Overall Flow of the Project.
Monitor trade contractors work to determine if construction schedules are being met.
Follow up with project schedules, and determine if they are current, assist where needed.
Maintain liaison with Area Superintendent’s/Project Manager’s to ensure work complies with contract drawings and specifications.
Assist Superintendents with their Contractual Obligations as they pertain to their Specific Areas.
Provide Leadership with the Site HSE Program as it pertains to; Joint Health and Safety Committee, the Worker Trade Committee, and general safety protocol on the Site
Follow-up on major equipment usages, such as cranes, hoists, critical lifts, etc.
Give support, review, analyze and resolve field construction problems.
Assist in site set up, temporary power planning, purchasing/rentals of Major Equipment and assist in establishing a functional Material Coordination Program for the Site.
Assist with the Overall project planning
Assist with development of the people on the Project
Assist with Work Assignments of other Area’s within the Project
Assist Other Areas of the site with troubleshooting, as they pertain to;
Field personnel development
Participate with the Overall Project Closeout, assisting with
Project Close-Out Procedures
Assist the Overall project with Knowledge of Local Regulatory Official, By-Laws, Trade Union Officials and Local Labour Laws that pertain to the Project
Assist Field Staff with The Project Contract and execution of the Contract
Assist with creative ideas to provide innovative solutions to the Constructability of the project.
Assist the Field Staff to fully understand the Specifications, methods and procedures to carry out their activities on the Project
Assist with the Forecasting of the, in conjunction with the Construction Manager
Monitor the Productivity of the Project, as it pertains to the Schedule and Cash Flow
Assist the Project Scheduler with Field experience, to best suit the Project.
